Editorial Policy

How we research, write, review, and update content — and how we handle advertising, affiliate links, and corrections.

Our Editorial Mission

Budget With You exists to make personal finance education accessible to everyone — regardless of income, background, or prior knowledge. Every piece of content we publish is held to a single standard: would this genuinely help someone make a better financial decision?

Content is written and reviewed by Terry Stagg, founder of Budget With You, who brings 27 years of healthcare administration and budgeting experience alongside personal experience navigating financial hardship and rebuilding financial stability.

How We Research and Write

All content on Budget With You is researched using primary sources wherever possible, including government data (IRS, Federal Reserve, Bureau of Labor Statistics), peer-reviewed financial research, and official guidance from regulatory bodies.

When we cite statistics or data, we link directly to the original source. We do not publish claims we cannot verify. If authoritative data is unavailable, we clearly note that a figure is an estimate or consensus view.

Articles are written to be accurate at the time of publication and reviewed for continued accuracy on a rolling basis. All articles display a "Last Updated" date so readers can judge how current the information is.

Accuracy and Corrections

We take factual accuracy seriously. If you find an error — a wrong figure, an outdated law, a broken link — please contact us and we will investigate and correct it promptly.

Significant corrections are noted at the bottom of the relevant article with the date of the change and a brief description of what was corrected.

How We Keep Content Current

Personal finance is a moving target — tax laws change, interest rates shift, new products emerge. We aim to review all articles at least annually and update them whenever a material change occurs that would affect the advice given.

Every article displays its most recent "Last Updated" date. If you are reading an article and notice that conditions have changed significantly, please let us know via the contact page.

Affiliate Links and Advertising

Budget With You earns revenue through two primary means: affiliate marketing and display advertising. Neither influences our editorial content.

Affiliate links: Some articles contain links to products or services. If you click a link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. We only recommend products and services that we have personally evaluated and believe provide genuine value. Pages containing affiliate links are clearly labelled.

Display advertising: Budget With You uses display advertising. Advertisers have no influence over the content of our articles, recommendations, or ratings. We do not accept payment to write about or recommend any specific product.

Sponsored content: We do not currently publish sponsored content. If this changes, sponsored articles will be clearly labelled as such at the top of the page.

Our Use of AI Tools

Budget With You uses AI writing tools as part of the content development process. All content — whether AI-assisted or not — is reviewed, edited, and personally approved by Terry Stagg before publication.

We do not publish AI-generated content without human review. Any factual claims made in AI-assisted drafts are verified against primary sources before the article goes live. The final responsibility for every piece of content on this site rests with its human editor.
